A rare and intimate chamber performance of Handel's 'Messiah' is set to delight classical music lovers this Christmas.

The concert will take place at St Mary's Church in Bruton on December 19 at 6pm.

The Echoing Air, an eight-member vocal ensemble, will perform the choruses and solos, while Music for Awhile, a quartet of baroque string players, will provide instrumental accompaniment.

The ensemble will be led by Margaret Faultless and will also feature a harpsichordist and a trumpeter.

The abridged performance, lasting approximately 90 minutes with no interval, will include the famous 'Hallelujah' chorus.

Performers include Amy Carson, Timothy Dickinson, Frederick Long, Emily Vine, Rebecca Leggett, Edmund Hastings, David de Winter, Margaret Faultless, Rachel Stroud, Francesca Gilbert, Jonathan Rees, Katie Lodge, and Oliver John Ruthven.

The Echoing Air has received high praise for previous performances, with audience members describing their work as a "really great performance", "absolutely superb", and "an extraordinary experience".

The chamber music atmosphere was noted for making audiences "really engage with the music".

Tickets are available in advance for £12.50 or £15 at the door.

The doors will open at 5.30pm.
