A CRASH on the A356 has left a man with "serious injuries" requiring an emergency air ambulance.

Yesterday (November 5), a road by Winyards Gap Inn and Corscombe turning was closed both ways after an incident at a turning near Crewkerne, Somerset.

A stretch of the A356 remained closed for hours after the incident - up until 6:30pm when police reopened the road both ways.

Police were at the scene of the incident yesterday morning, a statement from the police reads: "We received a report at 10:31am of a two-vehicle collision on the A356 near Chedington.

"Officers have attended the scene, along with the ambulance service, and road closures have been put in place.

"One person has been taken to hospital but we do not have any condition update at this time."

Following this statement received yesterday by the Dorset Police, it was confirmed that a male driver was airlifted to hospital with his next of kin informed of the incident.

The collision occurred at around 10.30am on Monday on the A356 near Chedington in West Dorset, just a few short miles from the Devon and Somerset border, and involved a silver Volkswagen Touran, and a silver Volvo XC40.

There were no reports of any other casualties.

Now, officers from Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage, to come forward with any information relating to the crash.

Sergeant Lee Savage, of the Roads Policing Team, said: "We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision.

"I would urge any witnesses to the collision, or the manner of driving of the vehicles involved prior to it, to please make contact with us.

"I am also keen to hear from any motorists who may have captured relevant dashcam footage.

"Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place.

"These are necessary to enable the emergency services to safely respond to the incident and for the scene to be examined."
