A school is launching a fundraising campaign to buy a minibus.

Old Cleeve Church of England First School in West Somerset is hosting an online silent auction from November 10-17 to help fund the £20,000 needed for the vehicle.

The minibus is intended to transport pupils to educational and life-enhancing experiences beyond the classroom, particularly important for the rural school.

The fundraising initiative aligns with the school's vision, "We see remarkable things every day," and aims to counteract the challenges of rural isolation by providing students with opportunities to flourish both inside and outside the classroom.

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses and community members, the auction boasts a wide array of pledges, including hair and beauty services, days out, dining experiences, Christmas gifts, food and treats, equine services, and more.

(Image: Old Cleeve Church of England First School) Emma Murch, the headteacher, expressed her appreciation: "We are incredibly grateful for the support from parents, teachers, local businesses, and the community.

"Every generous pledge made for this auction is a step toward providing our pupils with the opportunities they deserve.

"The funds raised for our school minibus will help us offer more enriching experiences beyond the classroom, enabling our children to achieve, thrive, care, and belong in ways that will shape their futures."

The students at Old Cleeve are equally enthusiastic about the prospect of having their own minibus.

Six-year-old Annie said: "I am excited to go on more trips, especially to see the farm."

Rosie, age seven, added: "We need a minibus to help people get to places that they struggle to walk to."

The silent auction will be conducted online from November 10-17, with individuals invited to place their bids through the school's auction website.

Winning bidders will be contacted after the auction to arrange payment and receipt of their products or services.

Printed and digital catalogues are available for those who prefer browsing before bidding, providing a complete overview of the items and services on offer.

An easy 'how-to' guide has also been created for anyone needing assistance with placing their bids.

The school encourages everyone to participate in this fundraising effort, which not only supports the school but also provides an opportunity for individuals to treat themselves or find the perfect gift in time for Christmas.
