LANGPORT has been given some temporary traffic lights after a reported "gas escape" in the Somerset town.

The traffic lights have been added whilst emergency work is completed by Wales and West Utilities to deal with the gas incident.

It is unconfirmed how long the temporary traffic lights will remain in place.

Speaking about the temporary placement, a spokesperson from the Somerset Council provided some information, the spokesperson said: "Heads up - there are temporary traffic lights on the A378 Bow Street, Langport.

"The emergency works are due to a gas escape.

"Wales & West Utilities are on site. Expect delays while works are in place."

Wales and West Utilities bring energy to 7.5m people across the South West of England and Wales.

A spokesperson from Wales and West Utilities spoke about their service: "If you smell gas, or suspect the presence of carbon monoxide, call us on 0800 111 999 straight away, and our engineers will be there to help any time of day or night.

"Before visiting, we'll ask you to let us know if you or anyone in your household, is experiencing Coronavirus symptoms or self-isolating.

"We'll still come and help you: but our teams will take some additional precautions to keep us all safe."
