More than 30 graduates from Strode College celebrated their academic achievements at a Wells Cathedral graduation ceremony.
The students, who completed degree and higher-level courses, were applauded by family, friends, and tutors in the inspiring cathedral setting.
With sunlight streaming in, graduates received certificates in various disciplines, including history, psychology, English, counselling, and business.
The courses are accredited by the University of Plymouth.
The ceremony included an address by the high sheriff of Somerset, Rob Beckley, who encouraged graduates to use their skills to benefit their communities.
He said: "While many of you already contribute, volunteer numbers have declined, especially since COVID-19.
"I encourage you to use your skills—whether in English, creative writing, psychology, or history—to support your communities.
"If you can't volunteer, help others to do so; volunteering strengthens our bonds and benefits everyone."
Mr Beckley left graduates with three pieces of advice: see challenges as opportunities, foster positivity and reconciliation, and contribute to the community for the greater good.
Notable attendees included Sarah Dyke, MP for Glastonbury and Somerton, councillor Bryan Knickerbocker from Street Parish Council, councillor Lokabandhu, the mayor of Glastonbury, and councillor Jasmine Brown, the mayor of Wells.
The day’s highlight was the presentation of the Partnerships Prize to Karen Collins, an English with creative writing graduate.
Her dissertation on Toni Morrison’s works received praise from the programme manager, Amy Jones.
Ms Jones said: "Karen has never received less than a distinction.
"Her deep thought and academic prowess exceed undergraduate expectations—she is an academic powerhouse."
Dr John Revill, the principal of Strode College, concluded the ceremony by commending the graduates on their success.
He said: "Strode College takes great pride in the exceptional support and personal attention our staff offer students.
"At the heart of our ethos is a deeply held belief that education has the power to transform lives."
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed refreshments and a performance by Strode College’s music students.
For those interested in Strode College's degree and higher education courses, an open event is scheduled for November 13, from 5.30 pm to 8 pm.
