A ROAD in Wells has been closed after reports of a gas leak in the City this morning.

Queen Street, Wells, has been forced to close today (November 11) after reports of a "gas escape".

The street, known to be useful due to the amenities close by, such as the Rajah Tandoori restaurant and The City Arms pub, will "be closed until further notice".

Somerset Travel has issued a statement revealing that Queen Street will remain closed for four days from Monday, 11 November to Thursday, 14 November.

Taking on the work is Wales & West Utilities, the gas emergency and pipeline service.

Wales & West Utilities brings energy to 7.5 million people across the South West of England and Wales.

If you smell gas, or suspect the presence of carbon monoxide, call them on 0800 111 999 straight away.

Speaking about the closure online, a spokesperson from Somerset Travel said: "Queen Street, Wells, has been closed for emergency works by @WWUtilities.

"This is due to a gas escape.

"The road, and some pavement, is shut.

"The work is scheduled until Thu 14 Nov, the road closure will be lifted early if possible."
