STUDENTS and staff at Monkton Wood Academy gathered to observe a two-minute silence today as part of the National Act of Remembrance, paying tribute to the courage and sacrifice of service members past and present.
In honour of the occasion, the academy invited students who are part of local Cadet and Scout groups to attend school in their uniforms, a powerful reminder of the legacy of service and community responsibility shared by so many.
Leading up to Remembrance Day, students and staff participated in assemblies focused on the themes of courage, selflessness, and acts of service.
These sessions provided an opportunity for reflection and for students to deepen their understanding of the values exemplified by those who have served.
During tutor time, students crafted poppies with personal messages of thanks and commemoration, which now form part of Monkton Wood Academy's Field of Remembrance—a heartfelt tribute displayed on campus to honour those who have given service to the nation.
Jennifer Martin, Associate Assistant Principal from Monkton Wood Academy, said: “Remembrance Day is an important time for our academy community to come together in respect and gratitude.
“Our students’ thoughtful participation, whether through silence, service, or creativity, reflects their understanding of and appreciation for the sacrifices that have been made on their behalf.”
