A POPULAR chicken shop in Wellington has closed after the arrival of a new KFC restaurant. The location is to be replaced by a Greggs.
Miss Millie's opened in Wellington in late May 2023 and has become a go-to fast-food option for people in Somerset.
The business, based in Westpark, Chelston, Wellington, built up a good returning customer base despite a neighbouring Subway and a McDonald's.
The Miss Millie’s outlet suddenly closed while work was completed nearby at a KFC drive-thru restaurant on the last business park space facing the A38 road.
KFC's new restaurant just opened next to Miss Millie's restaurant, only 200 yards away, raising concern about the future of the Miss Millie's branch.
Miss Millie's declined to explain the sudden closure of its Wellington branch with an expected loss of 30 jobs just days before competitor KFC opened its restaurant.

Greggs, which is opening on November 14, is expected to take on the Miss Millie's workers.
"Just thought I'd say not one of my staff members have lost their jobs," said Jordan Sellick, Miss Millie's manager who will take over management at the new Greggs. "They [the former staff at Miss Millie's] will all be at me with Greggs."
The Westpark Greggs will open from 6am to 6pm daily from Monday through Saturday, with shorter hours on Sundays.
The company has been delivering promotional offers door to door to encourage Wellington residents to visit the new Chelston outlet, including free coffee and breakfast rolls.
