A YEOVIL man who was more than three times over the drink drive limit when he was stopped by police has been given a 26-month driving ban.
A member of the public reported Jason Waller to the police after suspecting that he had been drinking because of the manner of his driving.
When officers went to look for him they caught up with his vehicle and when he was asked to take a breath test at the roadside gave a positive result.
Waller, 49, of Abbots Meade, appeared in the dock before Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil and admitted driving a Vauxhall Vivaro on September 20 after consuming excess alcohol.
Prosecutor Ben Winzer said the police were tipped off by a member of the public and officers spotted his vehicle on the A30 by the White Post Garage.
“He was driving the car erratically and was eventually stopped near the Garador roundabout where he was clearly under the influence of alcohol,” he said.
“A positive roadside breath test was taken and when he was taken to the police station a further test produced a reading of 109mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35mcg of alcohol.”
The magistrates disqualified Waller from driving for 16 months and made a 12 month community order with a requirement to carry out 100 hours unpaid work. Costs of £85 and a £114 victim surcharge were also imposed.
