Rachel Gilmour, MP for Tiverton and Minehead, has been elected vice cof the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Farming.

The election took place on Tuesday, October 29.

Ms Gilmour, who was the first female director at the National Farmers' Union in over 100 years, hopes her experience in farming and environmental roles will benefit Parliament.

She has also served as head of strategy at the Environment Agency.

Ms Gilmour said: "I’m delighted to have been elected as Vice Chair of the APPG for Farming.

"I am truly committed to playing my part for Tiverton and Minehead, and through this role I have a direct route to speak up for our farmers and their communities."

The APPG for Farming serves as a platform to highlight specific topics and concerns with other members from across the House.

It is hoped that Ms Gilmour's new role will allow her to raise local farming issues specific to Tiverton and Minehead with members from all political parties.

Ms Gilmour added: "Farming and farming policy has been a huge part of my life, and I am excited to get working on our local issues to ensure that our farmers have the resources, infrastructure, and support they need."

With her expertise, dedication, and principled standpoints, Ms Gilmour aims to hold the government to account on behalf of the farming community in Tiverton and Minehead.

Her election as vice chair comes at a crucial time for the farming sector, which faces numerous challenges.
