THE organising team at Shepton Mallet Carnival has spoken after seeing signs vandalised and moved "on the hour every hour" since being put up.
The carnival, which is set to illuminate Shepton Mallet tonight (November 13), is eagerly anticipated, but, despite this, some people aren't too happy with the road closures put in place to help the event run smoothly.
Shepton Mallet Carnival organisers have responded to the frustration of road users by saying that "the road is closed with TTRO from Somerset Council" and that they're "doing everything they can to put diversion signage to take traffic to where it needs to get".
However, people are still tempering with the signs, which is "becoming a problem" for the event's organisers.
With over 100 entries, including single masqueraders and illuminated carnival carts, viewers are spoilt for choice with who to look out for.
Gremlins CC were crowned the overall winners at Bridgwater Carnival, taking home the hotly anticipated Ker Cup, with their creative Beatlemania entry. It brings an end to the two-year winning streak of Ramblers CC.

One of the Shepton Mallet Carnival organisers made a statement online: "We really can't believe what has been happening during the last 24 hours.
"Since putting the road closure in place on Cannards Grave Road we have had numerous signs, barriers and cones damaged or moved on the hour every hour.
"Vehicles driving in both directions, the road is not passable without using the pavement. This is why it is closed.
"The road is closed with TTRO from Somerset Council, we do everything we can to put diversion signage to take traffic to where it needs to get to. It is being ignored and is becoming an issue for us.
"We know that those who are doing this probably aren't on FB but we need to appeal to people not to move, damage or ignore the signs as they are there to keep both carts and pedestrians safe.
"We can't just replace the signs that get damaged, we don't have a never-ending supply of stock."
