HUNDREDS of people circled in the streets of Taunton as the town began its special Remembrance Sunday parade in 2019.
The service, led by Reverand Adrian Prior-Sankey, brought many visitors to the town as dignitaries laid wreaths of poppies in front of a packed park, while prayers and hymns were said out loud.
The Remembrance Sunday parade went through town ending in Vivary Park, where a service was held watched by hundreds of visitors.
Ending up at the park, current and former members of the British Legion were in attendance to place tokens of the gratitudes at a war memorial, including the wreaths of poppies.
This war memorial stands in tribute to the men of Taunton who fell in the two World Wars.
The monument takes the form of a canopy sheltering a square column inscribed with the names of the fallen.
The canopy is a beautiful Neoclassical structure of four Doric columns supporting a roof and dome.
The Taunton branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) is a group of people who support the Armed Forces community and their families.
The RBL has a presence in Vivary Park, Taunton, where they participate in public remembrance events.
This year (2024), the RBL organised a National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in London.
The service began at 11am and honoured the contributions of British and Commonwealth military and civilian service members from World War I and World War II, as well as later conflicts.
On Monday, November 11, 2024, the RBL also hosted a live-streamed online assembly for students in years 5–9.
The assembly featured art, music, poetry, and interviews with veterans.
