A pop-up shop with live signwriting demonstrations is coming to Wells this weekend.
Expert signwriter and artist Joby Carter will open the Broad Street store on November 17 at 10am, remaining open until Christmas.
Mr Carter is recognised worldwide for his traditional signwriting, boasting more than 30 years of experience in the field.
He combines this skill with his decorative artistry to create a variety of hand-painted gifts.
Mr Carter said: "I’ve recently moved to Wells with my family, and I’m excited to be opening a shop here.
"It’s quite unusual for signwriters to open a shop, so I’m looking forward to being able to showcase this skill to a wider audience."
In addition to his handiwork, the shop will also stock signwriting books and supplies.
Throughout the day, Mr Carter will be doing live demonstrations, allowing visitors to see him work on different stages of a project.
He encourages people to ask questions about the craft, believing that the more people are aware of these traditional techniques, the greater the chance they have of surviving in the digital age.
Mr Carter continued: "I'm a people person, and I love chatting to everyone about what I do.
"People can see traditional signwriting taking place, and we can spread the love of this craft."
There will be special opening offers on many of the hand-painted letters he created for his second book, All the Fonts of the Fair.
