A LARGE and "severe" vehicle fire involving a lorry trailer that was "well alight" resulted in the full closure of the A367 road near Chilcompton, Somerset.

The Devon and Somerset Fire Control and Service team received a few calls for a lorry trailer on fire.

Fire Crews from Yeovil, Frome and Wells stations were all sent to the scene.

The HGV trailer was located in a layby outside the White Post Inn. It had been disconnected from the lorry cab and was carrying a tarmac payer and tarmac roller.

On arrival all three crews confirmed the trailer was fully alight.

A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire Control and Service team said: "The trailer was well alight on our arrival."

The fire crews battled the blaze using: one 51mm jet, one 70mm jet, one hose reel jet, and a triple extension ladder.

After fighting the flames for four hours the crews successfully put out the flames and the fire is fully out now, however the A367 road will remain closed until tomorrow.

In the end, the paver was completed destroyed by fire, the trailer unit was severely damaged and the second vehicle was slightly damaged by fire.

The cause for the fire is believed to be accidental.
