A TAUNTON school has received a musical donation worth hundreds of pounds this week.
Pyrland School was visited by a Somerset charity earlier this week - the charity is in memory of Hatty Harrison, who loved music.
In November 2020, Hatty Harrison was tragically killed in a road accident in Somerset whilst walking her dog.
She was just 24 years old and was a very close and dear friend to Tom Scott (who set up SGS - now called Grounded Sounds) and his family.
Hatty joined 20 other fundraisers in 2019 to walk 100km along the Ridgeway, individually raising over £1100 for SGS.
Hatty "was a great lover of music" and in memory of her - and in recognition of the money she raised - Hatty's Fund was set up as a special fund for young musicians.
Hatty's Fund has raised over £26,300 since it started and has helped support musically gifted students up and down the country.
On November 11, Tom, who started up Hatty's Fund, visited the Pyrland School students who are aspiring musicians.
There were happy faces all around, as the charity delivered four violins and an electric guitar to a group of year 7s.
The school have revealed that they will be "matching the donation" made by Hatty's Fund, which means the school will be receiving over a thousand pounds worth of investment into their musical talent.
Tom was joined by Hatty's mother and father, who appreciate the work Tom does in Hatty's memory.
The parents were given an honorary bouquet by the Pyrland School students in honour of Hatty.
Pyrland School teacher, Mr George Gannon, has started a string group involving the students as part of a "bigger plan".
The Pyrland School teacher said: "I have big plans for these students.
"Since I arrived at the school last year, we have started our string group which only consists of the year 7s at the minute [11-12 year olds].
"Ultimately, I know these students are very talented and I plan to have an orchestra consisting of a string group, brass, woodwind, and singers.
"These girls have regular violin lessons and it's amazing that now they can take these instruments home with them to practice.
"We plan to host a concert in March 2025 - and tickets will be available to the public.
"The venue is unknown right now."
