FAMILIES are invited to Wellington Sports Centre’s open day to celebrate the completion of a multi-million makeover.
The free event, on Saturday, November 30, is being hosted to celebrate the completion of a refurbishment which saw the gym undergo a full upgrade, while the sports hall and swimming pool received a refresh.
During the open day, visitors will be able to experience the revamped facilities completely free of charge, including the brand-new gym which opened in summer following a £500,000 makeover.
The facility is complete with all-new cardio equipment, such as a ski erg, arc trainers, treadmills and airbikes, as well as new resistance equipment and free weights.
A new functional gym has also been added, which fitness enthusiasts will be able to try at the event.
For those wanting to learn more about the centre’s fitness offering, there will be gym inductions (including junior) and personal training tasters throughout the day.
A number of group exercise classes will be on offer too, including BODYPUMP, BODYCOMBAT and Rejuvenate – along with group cycling, which will take place in the brand-new studio.
Families will welcome the array of kid-friendly activities, which includes a bouncy castle (charged at a small price), as well as pool inflatable sessions.
What’s more, there will be a line-up of Somerset County Cricket Club stars at the event, offering visitors the opportunity to meet them and get autographs.
Wellington Sports Centre is run by Everyone Active in partnership with Somerset Council and the refit also included extensive decarbonisation works funded by a council bid to the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.
Mark Washington, contract manager for Everyone Active in Somerset, said: “We are so excited to celebrate Wellington Sports Centre’s refurbishment with our upcoming open day.
“The centre has been given a new lease of life, and the new and improved facilities offer something for every corner of the community.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to try out the upgraded facilities, all while having fun and celebrating with others in the community.
“We hope that everyone in Wellington is pleased with their new and improved leisure centre, and we look forward to seeing the local community join us for the event.”
In addition to the customer-facing upgrades, Wellington Sports Centre underwent a carbon-cutting makeover to futureproof the facility.
Councillor Federica Smith-Roberts, lead member for Communities, Housing Revenue Account, Culture and Equalities and Diversity said: “The opening of our new upgraded sports centre marks a significant milestone for the Wellington community.
“The new improved eco-friendly centre will provide better facilities to promote health and wellness and is an investment in the future that will yield benefits for years to come.”
