A MAN from Taunton was surprised to find a photo of himself from 60 years ago hanging on the wall of a local pub.

Robert Waters, who was born in Taunton, had decided to celebrate his 80th birthday by going to a pub he used to visit in his youth.

The walls of the pub, now named 61 Bar & Venue, are adorned with old photos found on local Facebook pages and hung to celebrate the many years the establishment has been running.

It was studying the photos that Robert saw a familiar sight, a picture of himself in his early 20s.

Robert's daughter, Claire Naylor, said: “My dad is an amazing man who has done so much throughout his 80 years with phenomenal memories of the past and the history of Taunton.”

“Robert was born in Taunton. He worked over the years in Wellington, Sandhill Park and later in Glastonbury, commuting every day.

“He moved to Shepton Mallet for a few years but returned to Taunton to be close to his four daughters and 14 grandchildren.”
