IT IS the final countdown with the official opening of Labyrinth, the new nightclub located on Bridge Street, Taunton, due to open in just under a week.

The site, replacing what was once Zinc, is still currently undergoing the final touches of the necessary redevelopment before opening Wednesday, December 4.

Duncan Squires, company director, has insisted that the opening will be going ahead as planned next week despite banners advertising launch events being removed and the persistence of scaffolding around the building.

“The opening event is next Wednesday still," he said. "The venue is nearly finished inside."

"The scaffolding will be down either tomorrow or Monday," a spokesperson for R4 Scaffolding Ltd said.  "It is definitely possible." 

Epic Bars and Clubs, the new owners of Labyrinth, have spent about £750,000 on refurbishment.

This new venue will be employing around 45 new staff members and will have five rooms, including a cocktail bar, a terrace with a bar, a competitive games area, a main clubroom, and even a "dirty disco disco” room.

“We are thrilled to be bringing our Epic brand of magic to the town of Taunton," Squires said. added. "We’ve got something so extraordinary planned for this venue as we take it into a next chapter as our new Labyrinth location." 

Labyrinth will become the "essential location" for a late night out in Taunton, he added.
