On arrival at the scene (a house in Callins View), crews confirmed this to be a fire in the living room of a flat in a two-storey building of standard construction – used as a domestic dwelling.
Crews got to work with two breathing apparatus wearers and one hose reel jet to fight the fire – which took two hours.
All occupants and neighbours were accounted for and there have been no reports of injuries.
The fire was started by a candle which set fire to furniture within the lounge area of the property according to the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Services.
Crews extinguished the fire using the two breathing apparatus wearers, one hose reel jet, one safety jet, one thermal imaging camera and a positive pressure ventilation fan which was used to clear the property of smoke after the fire was put out.
The room of origin sustained “severe fire damage”, and the cause has been deemed as accidental.
