Choosing Taunton
Epic Bars and Clubs, the new owners of the Taunton venue (previously Zinc) operate across the UK and own branded clubs and bars like Trilogy, Botanic and Labyrinth.
Labyrinth in Taunton is their 57th nightclub build.
Duncan Squires informed us that when looking to place their businesses they always choose places classed as smaller towns and cities – where they can really bring the “wow factor”.
He especially felt that Taunton could use a new updated place where people can go out and have fun as “it can get a bit boring” otherwise – alongside Mambo.
“Places like Taunton really want to have a nice club and sometimes get overlook and left out,” he said. “When we saw the sight was available, we saw great potential in the multi-level venue where we could offer a bit of everything to lots of different people.”
“I really like Taunton. It’s a key destination for this part of the world. It tends to be the place where the nice crowd comes to,” he added.
Speedy renovation works
Despite speculation arising of whether the venue would be able to open so soon after the official announcement of the £750,000 renovations, with the scaffolding still up until the weekend of November 30, the opening is still going ahead as planned on December 4.
Epic Bars and Clubs apparently have a system that always works for them and allows them to complete projects in a shorter timeframe.
“We always do things in a very fast time. It takes us 5-6 weeks to do what would take most people 10-12 weeks,” Duncan said proudly.
Five rooms
Labyrinth will have five rooms for visitors to enjoy, including a cocktail bar called “Botanic” which Duncan felt Somerset residents would benefit from having that will also offer cocktail making classes.
“We thought because there was a bit of a gap in the market here in Taunton that we would convert the first room into a cocktail bar.”
The other rooms will include:
The Main Club Room, which will play RnB and Dance House music, and include “state-of-the-art lighting, booths available for booking and VIP table service.
“Dirty Disco” - where everyone can be a dancing queen and listen to their favourite songs.
The “Barcade Room” – a competitive games room with a bar. This will include air hockey tables, ski ball boxing machines, basketball hoops according to Duncan.
A rooftop bar and smoking area at the top of the venue.
The team at Epic Clubs and Bars are apparently really impressed with how the rooms look.
“It’s turned out even better than expected,” Duncan added. “I am pleased with the way it looks and if I am then I am sure others will be too.”
Free tickets
The Launch parties will be taking place on Wednesday, December 4, Friday December 6 and Saturday December 7 and there is an opportunity to get free early entry tickets.
Epic Bars and Clubs wants everyone to feel the can come to the grand opening, so the event also has a free entry guest list for Friday and Saturday.
Positive responses
Duncan informed us that the response for the launch has been “extremely positive” and the bookings for the rest of December are looking “really strong”.
“We think it's going to be exactly what we need it to be,” he said.
