WELLINGTON Rugby Club seek approval to build a new renewable Battery Box in the car park of their Rugby Club.
Planning application 43/24/0114 seeks the approval to build and operate a micro-energy storage facility at Wellington RFC, Corams Lane, Wellington.
If approved a 200kW 'Battery Box’ will appear at Wellington Rugby Club car park.
Developed by AMP Clean Energy is developing Battery Boxes across the UK which they say: "Provides a low carbon, flexible and de-centralised store of electricity that benefits local communities, businesses, and homes."
A Battery Box imports electricity from the local electricity network when demand for electricity is low or when there are high levels of renewable energy available.
It then exports that electricity back to the grid when required during periods of high demand. That would otherwise go to waste. It will be fed back to local businesses and homes, not just at the club but the whole of Wellington.
The plans will be reviewed by Somerset Council planning officers before a decision to approve or refuse it is made.
