A museum in Somerset has received a generous offer of support to help preserve and store its growing collection of historical artefacts.

Wellington Museum has outgrown its current storage space due to ongoing donations, forcing it to keep many items out of public view.

To address the problem, Tonedale Self Storage has stepped in to provide dedicated storage units at its Milverton Road facility.

The storage company’s offer ensures the safe and long-term preservation of these historically significant items in a clean, dry, and secure environment with controlled access.

Julie Madsen, director of Tonedale Self Storage, said: "Wellington Museum plays a vital role in keeping our local history alive.

"When we learned they were struggling for space, we knew we could help.

"We’re proud to support the museum and ensure these artefacts are properly cared for until they can be displayed."

The museum holds an extensive collection reflecting the industrial, social, and cultural heritage of Wellington.

While many items are preserved, limited space has prevented some from being publicly exhibited.

Mike Menhenitt, chair of Wellington Museum, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Tonedale Self Storage for their generosity.

"This support allows us to protect items that would otherwise be at risk and gives us the breathing room we need as we plan future exhibitions."

The partnership highlights a shared commitment to protecting Wellington’s heritage and ensuring that the community can continue to connect with its past.
