A Wellington football coach has been named volunteer of the month by the Somerset FA.
Mike Bird, who leads Wellington AFC’s Ability Counts programme, received recognition for his work in disability football for May.
The programme supports adults and juniors aged 11 and above with disabilities and health challenges.
Dan Eustice from Somerset FA said: "We would like to congratulate Mike on winning volunteer of the month for his work within disability football at Wellington AFC.
"The volunteer of the month campaign has been set up by Somerset FA to recognise and reward volunteers across Somerset for their hard work and dedication in grassroots football.
"It's clear from the comments from people who nominated Mike that he deserves this award – he goes above and beyond for players as well as parents, and has a really positive impact on them, as well as their mental health.
"Mike has also helped create an environment where everyone feels comfortable, safe and welcome.
"He is a great role model to all at Wellington, and to others across Somerset.
"Well done."
Mr Bird received a £100 OneForAll voucher with the award.
He was described in nominations as "a fantastic coach, friendly and knowledgeable – he makes everyone feel involved and is clear when coaching.
"He makes it fun and relaxed for everyone."
Another said: "He welcomes everyone into the club with open arms, and with his patience for players and passion to support us with the game makes him the best coach I’ve ever worked with in 20 years."
Wellington AFC chair Mike Hall said: "This is brilliant news and well deserved.
"Congratulations, Mike."
