Machine operator Shawn Trott was unconventionally dumped at the altar, according to an article in the Somerset County Gazette in 1991.
Instead of walking the 500 metres to St James’ Church, Taunton, his bride Mandy Squire had plotted an unusual mode of transport.
Upon leaving his front door, Shawn was met with his carriage… a JCB!
Mandy’s inspiration came from a picture of Shawn’s 21st birthday of him sitting on a JCB.
She arranged for Shawn and best man, brother Stephen Trott, to be picked up and driven to church.
At the time, Mandy’s sister, Angela Coles, commented how "Shawn just loves JCBs."
However, Mandy did not share this love and opted for a more mundane and traditional horse and carriage, which whisked the freshly married couple away to their reception at Taunton Rugby Club.

Shawn was not the only half of the couple to be surprised though.
Mandy, who was a senior supervisor at BR Traveller’s Fare, was met with a party upon her arrival to work on that Tuesday morning.
They even sent out a congratulations via British Rail announcement to the applause of passengers at Taunton Station.
The manager of Travellers’ Fare, Joyce Penn, said that they wanted to give Mandy "something to remember as well" because of "all the effort she put into organising the surprise for Shawn."
