A BEREAVEMENT suite for families who have lost of a baby has been opened in the maternity unit at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.
The Rowan Suite, which has two beds and seated areas is designed for women at all stages of pregnancy and is linked to the main labour ward.
There are facilities for families to stay to offer support and comfort.
Keiley Tuck, who has taken on the post of specialist bereavement midwife, said: “The loss of a baby, regardless of the stage of pregnancy, can be devastating for any family.
“We hope that this new unit and my role as bereavement midwife will help to comfort and support women and their families at this difficult time.”
Musgrove chaplain the Rev Eric Holdstock, who dedicated the unit, said: “We want these surroundings to provide, tangibly, the loving comfort that our hearts long to give to those experiencing this kind of loss.
“The suite also demonstrates a oneness of heart and mind by the staff team working together with those who have to take this journey.”
