EXMOOR Masonic Lodge meeting on Thursday December 18, 2008, was a ‘Special’ evening, not only being their Christmas meeting, but one where the ladies were invited to dine.
Their principal guest was Right W/Bro. Stanley Hopkins, Past Provincial Grand Master of Somerset, accompanied by Mrs Hopkins.
The ladies were invited into the Lodge to witness the presentation of donations to various organisations as follows: After much hard work by the Worshipful Master, his lady, Sandy, and other members of the lodge, £2,000 was raised and a cheque for this amount was presented to The Children’s Oncology Unit at Musgrove Park Hospital.
Receiving this cheque were Mrs Joan Ramsay, retired Nursing Director and the Matron of the Unit, Mrs Jan Lock.
The second presentation, a cheque for £1,000, was presented to Mrs Wendy Hargreaves of Ovarian Cancer Action.
£500 was raised by the members of the Lodge and £500 was donated by the Grand Charity.
It has since been announced that The Grand Charity are donating the sum of £1mover the next five years to Ovarian Cancer Action Research.
The amount raised was the inspiration of Mrs Sandy Dunster, the wife of the Worshipful Master, as a tribute to the memory of a dear friend, who she nursed through ovarian cancer.
At the dinner, which followed as a result of the table draw, the sum of £160 was raised and presented to the local RNLI.
Several members of the Lodge are serving members of the Lifeboat crew or are involved in its Administration.
