A WOMAN from Bishops Hull had a cracking surprise as she tucked into her breakfast egg this week.
Ann Lewis was left shell-shocked to find two eggs in one.
She said: “I sat down to enjoy my morning breakfast of a boiled egg, I sliced the top off and discovered that my yolk looked rather hard.
“As I went to dig in with my spoon it was indeed hard - to my surprise it was another egg shell.
“It appears to be an egg within an egg.”
Douglas Russell, bird group curator for the National History Museum said: “Finding a complete egg inside another is a rare occurrence compared to other egg oddities like double yolks which are still fairly rare with about 1 in 1,000 being found.
“It's thought to happen as the egg is developing and being pushed down, a series of abnormal contractions push the developing egg back up and it's surrounded by another growing egg.”
