MEMBERS met on Friday, September 18. Mr Geoff Brownsey put on a programme of music and comedy taking us, year by year, through the Second World War.
Commencing with ‘The Day War Broke Out’ by Rob Wilton, and finishing with the speech by Sir Winston Churchill announcing the end of the war in Europe, and the ‘Land of Hope & Glory’ and featuring the voices of Tommy Handley, George Formby, Vera Lynn, Anne Shelton, Bing Crosby, Leslie Hutchinson, Irving Berlin, Betty Driver and the music of Joe Loss, Geraldo, Glenn Miller, Harry Roy, Nat Gonella and Tommy Dorsey.
On September 25, we were entertained by The Townswomen’s Guild Choir, who led us in a good old sing song. The next day we had lunch at the Bathpool Inn where we were joined by National Secretary, Mrs Jennifer Hopkins and her husband David.
The next meeting will be on October 9.
