Helston did not get off to a very good start in their Cornwall League II game against Roseland, giving away early penalties, but their opponents were unable to take advantage.

Fifteen minutes into the game outside centre Martin Ball opened the scoring for Helston with a try, which was converted by Kevin Mitchell and that was quickly followed by another try for Helston scored by winger Colin Taylor.

Roseland winger Sean Hooper scored a try to keep them in the game, but Helston tightened their defence and scored three more tries through Dan Lockey, Ted Heaton and James Jenkin and two conversions by Kevin Mitchell.

Helston led by 31 points to Roseland's five points at the interval.

After the break Helston consolidated their position and scored three more tries through Steve Trethowan and two for the outstanding scrum half Matt Jilbert.
