PENZANCE 2 PORTHLEVEN 2
Playing under the new Penlee Park floodlights for the first time, Porthleven snatched a draw with a late goal in this Carlsberg SWL clash against Penzance.
There was little to choose between the sides in the opening stages although the Fishermen had a couple of good chances to open the scoring through Lee Doncaster.
Porthleven had to wait until five minutes before the break to take the lead when a corner from Simon Webb was headed in at the far post by Darren Holsey.
Within a minute Port's lead had disappeared. Penzance launched an attack from the kick-off and Ben Mackie slipped the ball to Alex Mackie who made no mistake from close range.
Porthleven's strategy suffered a blow when Jamie Benallick and Lee Ireland had to be substituted either side of half-time. David Woodfield and Scott Clarke came on in their places.
The Magpies edged in front following a goalmouth scramble, Vercesi getting the final touch.
Porthleven pushed Holsey into midfield in a bid to change things round and ten minutes from time the move paid off when they equalised.
Holsey lobbed the ball downfield and a mix-up between the goalkeeper and a defender enabled Andy Sargent to run on and tap the ball into an empty net.
Porthleven: P Collins, H Morgan, D Holsey, B Williamson, S Webb, L Ireland, J Benallick, A Sargent, L Doncaster, M Laity, R Powell. Subs: D Woodfield, S Clarke, A Rollinson, D Stidwell.
