With six rounds out of 10 now shot in the Shoulder to Shoulder Rifle League, Truro have responded well to their first round defeat away to St Ives.
A score of 491 (out of 500) in a recent bye match followed with an impressive away win against St Austell, means Truro are now firmly back in contention to retain the Shoulder to Shoulder League title after winning their last five matches.
In a potentially tricky away shoot against St Austell, Truro were fortunate to be able to field a full strength team of shooters, whilst St Austell only managed to raise the minimum five shooters required to take part in the match.
With four of St Austell's five shooters scoring 97 (out of 100) or above, the lack of a full strength squad was crucial in the overall result. St Austell's overall team total was restricted to 482 (out of 500) as a result of having to include a disappointing score from one of their shooters of 89 (out of 500).
Top performers for St Austell were husband and wife Mark and Kate Richards, with 99 (out of 100).
As for Truro, having a full strength team made the difference with an overall score of 489 (out of 500).
Top scorer was youngster Jacob Collins with a 99. Other scores were Fred Teagle 98, Judy Harris 98, with juniors Samantha Harris and Roy Owen a further point back on 97.
Three of the Truro team are also strong contenders for the overall individual average title in the shoulder to Shoulder league. Jacob Collins (ave. 98.6), Samantha Harris (97.7) and Fred Teagle (97.8) are in overall contention for the title, although they will have to ensure their fine shooting to date is maintained in the final three rounds.
Truro now meet high flying St Ives in their next match, with the result likely to determine the overall league winners.
