MARAZION 1 TRURO CITY 8

THERE was no indication of the goal fest to come at half-time in the Jolly's Combination League game between Marazion and Truro City with sides locked at 1-1. However, the second half saw City hit the goal trail as they hammered in a further seven without reply.

"We didn't do the things we should have done in the first half," said manager Gary Pascoe. "You need to show the same amount of respect and put in as much effort as if you were playing a top side every time and I felt we didn't do that.

"In the first half the players were lazy and didn't put in sufficient effort. It was a case of leaving someone else to do the running and the tracking back.

"The second half was a much different affair and we did what was required to win the game, but I felt that the scoreline was still very flattering for us.

"It was never an 8-1 game and Marazion can feel a little aggrieved at the scoreline, especially after their first half effort.

"What was pleasing was that every time a substitute was introduced it had an immediate impact on the game."

The game looked to be going City's way when they opened the scoring after 15 minutes when a good midfield move ended with Brian jay firing in a rasping shot that went in off the underside of the bar despite a valiant effort by the 'keeper who got a hand to the ball.

City began to underhit their passes and failed to track back with their opposite numbers as their game became sloppy and they paid the penalty when Marazion equalised after City should have scored a second.

Robin Watts' point-blank range header was saved by the 'keeper and from the break, City having regained possession, lost it again and Shane Davis scored the equaliser from a penalty after a foul in the box.

The second half was only five minutes old when Justin Andrew put City back in front and the Kayne Trevaskis added the third after good work by Dave Rogers who had cut inside and set up the goal.

On the hour Liam Williams notched the fourth from Adam Barnicoat's pass and then Williams used his strength to hold off several challenges before teeing the ball up for Andrew to score his second.

Andrew completed his hat-trick from a virtually identical move and after Williams had grabbed the seventh, Andrew completed the scoring in an amazing second half with the eighth goal.

City have no game n Saturday because the league has rearranged a number of games.
