TRURO 9pts

Bridgwater AND ALBION 38pts

TRURO'S plight at the foot of the South West One League took another turn for the worse at St Clements Hill on Saturday when they were beaten by fellow strugglers Bridgwater and Albion.

This was a game the city club must have targeted as one of the crucial matches in which they needed to take maximum points, but it was the visitors who profited to inch themselves clear of the relegation places with a determined performance.

Fortunately for Truro, there are still several clubs within reach, but any side scrapping for points will need to win their home games and that is something which Truro, at present, is finding difficult to achieve.

An area of concern for Truro must be the ease with which they are conceding points and to allow struggling opponents to cross your line on six occasions is not good for confidence.

Truro went into the match with possibly their strongest team for some time, and the supporters obviously thought the home side were in with a good shout given the size of the crowd.

Player/coach Steve Larkins had his kicking boots on to land three penalties for the home side, but it didn't take long for Bridgwater to find their feet and pierce the Truro defence to score tries through Jason Knox, Gavin Hancock, and Rob Hake.

Fly-half Andrew George converted two of the tries to put the visitors in a strong position at 19-9 at half-time.

Truro showed plenty of spirit in the second half and put Bridgwater under pressure on several occasions, but scoring opportunities were lost when the wrong options were taken.

George, with his tactical kicking, kept his side ticking over on the scoreboard as they regularly picked up the points to edge well clear of Truro.

Bridgwater added further tries through wingers Knox and Hancock with flanker Andy Webber completing the scoring.

George converted two of the tries.
