PENRYN ATHLETIC 2 ST JUST 2
A GOAL deep into injury time salvaged a valuable Jolly's Combination League point for Penryn Athletic who pulled off a 2-2 draw against St Just.
In a tense, bruising encounter, it was no more than the home side deserved after trailing 2-0 at the interval.
Athletic made a bright start with Martin Murphy firing in a 20-yard shot that was well saved by Andy Angove and Angove was in action again shortly after when he pulled off a superb finger-tip save to deny Phil Mitchell's terrific 30-yard shot.
The home side were having much the better of the exchanges with Angove mainly responsible for keeping his side on level terms, but it was the woodwork that denied Athletic when Shane D'Cotta picked up Casey Adams' pass and cut inside before launching a shot that flew off the top of the Saints' crossbar.
Despite the early pressure it was the visitors who established a two-goal lead with the first coming from a Neil Curnow free kick that rebounded off a defender and headed in by Jowan May.
The second came following a passback by Matt Potts. Symon Winnan's attempted clearance was intercepted by Mark Pope who shot into an empty net.
Angove denied Paul Kneebone with a great save following good work by Potts, but Athletic were handed a lifeline when Andy Trathen was fouled in the box for Paul Kneebone to make no mistake with the spotkick.
Pope shot wide from in front of the goal following a cross by Matt Witts and John McCullam's lack of control cost him dear when a goal beckoned.
Time was running out for Athletic when D'Cotta hit a tame shot at the outstanding Angove, but in the fifth minute of time added on for time wasting Gary Martin's cross was knocked down by Trathen for Potts to drill the ball through Angove's legs from 12 yards for the equaliser.
Athletic: S Winnan, W Scoley, N Grinshaw, M Potts, P Mitchell, P Kneebone, M Murphy, C Adams, A Trathen, S D'Cotta. Subs: S Jones, P Lewis, G Martin.
