IN an exciting Jolly's Combination League cup quarter-final at Bickland Park, Falmouth's young side managed once again to score more goals than they conceded, although the result was always in doubt right up to the final whistle.
There were three goals scored in the first 15 minutes. Bryn Wheeler headed home after five minutes from a suberb cross from Andrew Westgarth, three minutes later centre half Toby Clark gave away a penalty which Sheridan Sefton converted, giving 15-year-old 'keeper Matt Prynn, who had an excellent game, no chance.
Wheeler scored his second goal almost immediately after the restart from a through ball from Morris, but there were chances at both ends and Newquay deservedly equalised from a free kick by Andy Birt on 35 minutes.
Just before half-time Westgarth restored Falmouth's lead with a well struck volley.
The second half was as competitive as the first and Newquay once again bounced back through Sefton. The game was flowing from end to end with plenty of goalmouth action and ten minutes from time Chris Morris popped up in the box to head home and make the game safe for Falmouth.
Newquay had their chances in a frantic last few minutes but the home side hung on to progress to the semi-final.
