VAN Gogh, Leonardo Da Vinci, Matisse and Andy Warhol have all featured prominently in an exciting art project which has been running in three primary schools in the Camborne, Pool, Redruth Success Zone.
The schools involved in the innovative project are Pencoys Primary School, Penponds Junior and Infants School and Weeth Junior and Infants School.
This project was developed in partnership between the CPR Success Zone and West Cornwall business broker, Bernice Williams.
Bernice explained: "This was certainly a high profile initiative, providing a unique approach linking a local business with primary schools in the area."
The business, Baltic Pine Timber Corporation at Penzance, kindly provided the schools with a selection of waste timber, which was then used to produce three dimensional interpretations of famous paintings.
Leading the project in the schools was sculptor Amanda Lorens, who works for artists' agency Outlook.
Alan Rowling from the CPR staff said: "Amanda motivated the youngsters brilliantly and allowed them to bring their own ideas into the artwork. You really have to see this work to appreciate the high quality achieved by the children."
Martin Smith, headteacher at Weeth School, added: "This was a well organised project, which gave our Year 6 pupils an opportunity to work creatively with a professional. They were enthusiastic about the project."
"It was excellent for teamwork and really did raise their self esteem. It gave the staff plenty of ideas for similar work in the future. There were so many good things to come out of this project."
