The weather so far this year has been pretty mild and by the time you read this article, some of you will already be seriously thinking of applying your first application of nitrogen.
Mike Sheppard of Kemira Growhow predicts that T200 will be achieved by a number of "early farms'' during the first week of February, and providing soil conditions permit, most people will be applying up to 50 units per acre of "N" (62.5 kgs/Ha).
With winter feed still in plentiful supply on farm, you may like to consider re-seeding one or two fields that took a battering last year and now look either spent or worn out or have a very high weed content. Either way, DM production will be severely restricted and you may feel that you cannot afford to wait until next autumn to re-seed. Careful planning now could prove quite useful in a few months time.
