RAMBERT Dance Company returns to Hall for Cornwall in Truro on February 26 and 27 with a dynamic mixed bill, featuring a range of works from some of Britain's finest choreographers, both past and present and a Dutch master of dance.
Artistic director Mark Baldwin's vision for Rambert is to commission a body of new work that encourages choreographers, composers and designers to collaborate in order to create works that are physically powerful, emotionally engaging and above all entertaining. Rambert's associate orchestra, London Musici, plays an integral role in the delivery of these plans.
The programme opens with the Revival Premiere of Linear Remains, by associate choreographer, Rafael Bonachela. It is a fine example of Bonachela's free-flowing approach to movement that fizzes with kinetic energy.
Also receiving its Revival Premiere is Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan, a beautiful solo for a female dancer. Created in 1976 to mark Rambert's 50th anniversary, it is a moving evocation of Isadora Duncan, the pioneer of the 20th century modern dance movement. Each short 'waltz' represents a different facet of Duncan's personality, from light-hearted to contemplative and heroic.
Hans Van Manen's Visions Fugitives is performed to Prokofiev's score of the same title. It comprises 15 miniatures, each lasting between 20 seconds and two minutes. This evocative score was the inspiration for the Dutch choreographer to create a suite of dances that range from the sinister to the playful.
