PARENTS and health officials in West Cornwall are this morning expected to receive results of an investigation into a suspected cancer cluster.
At the request of local concerns, a team of public health experts from the South West Cancer Intelligence Service in Bristol has been examining any possible link between six cases of bone cancer in young adults around Helston.
Osteosarcoma is one of the most common type of bone cancer and the sixth most common cancer in children in the UK.
All six cases are thought to have links with Helston Community College.
One former pupil, 19-year-old Emma Callar, first became ill in 1999 and died in August last year.
Another teenager, 15-year-old Amiee Plant, was diagnosed with bone cancer earlier in 2003.
