DEVON County Councillors have expressed concerns over next year's environment and economy budget.

Members of the council's Environment and Economy Overview/Scrutiny Committee, which met last week (January 21) said road repairs were among the top priorities for residents, and a cut in the budget would prevent any progress being made on the backlog that exists.

A cut of £1million in the budget would jeopardise the road repair backlog currently estimated at more than £140million.

Committee chairman Councillor John Glanvill said the council faced a challenging task in keeping down council tax while trying to protect vital services.
