Torquay celebrated another win on Saturday when they destroyed struggling side Macclesfield 4-1 at Plainmoor.
Kevin Hill opened the scoring on eight minutes with a stunning overhead kick following an Alex Russell corner. And before half time both David Graham and Craig Taylor added to the scoreline with headers.
Though Macclesfield did pull one back in the second half, Martin Gritton made it 4-1 with only minutes of the game left after Matthew Tipson had recieved a second yellow card and left the field.
Plymouth Argyle moved five points clear at the top of the Second Division following their 2-0 away win at Stockport, and QPR's loss to Bournemouth.
David Friio and Graham Coughlan were Argyle's scorers as they eased away from their London rivals, who have been chasing them in second place. Bristol City, in third, remain 10 points behind the Pilgrims.
And to complete a good week for Devon's professional teams, Exeter City gained a well-deserved three points away at Dagenham and Redbridge.
City, who must fancy themselves now for a play-off place come the end of the Nationwide Conference campaign, took the inititave with Sean Canham putting away their first, and James Coppinger converting a late penalty.
They now look forward to a fourth round FA Trophy tie at King's Lynn next Saturday. Torquay are at home to Scunthorpe in Division Three, and Argyle have a televised away meeting with Brighton in Division Two, with an early evening kick off.
