A PENSIONER is critically ill in a Plymouth hospital this morning after being assaulted during an evening's walk through Fowey.
The un-named 65-year-old, who was with his wife and friends, was allegedly attacked on the Esplanade after he spoke to a group of youths about their behaviour.
Police were called to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske, Truro, in the early hours of Sunday morning after the man was taken there by ambulance.
An 18-year-old youth and a 22-year-old man were arrested on Sunday.
The 18-year-old, who lives in the Par area, was later released on police bail. Officers were this morning continuing to question the 22-year-old.
The pensioner is now being cared for in Derriford Hospital's neurological department where his condition was said to be critical.
