THERE is a growing interest in schools cricket within Somerset which is borne out by the number of entries received for two competitions due to take place in the near future.
The first event is the Girls Under 15 competition the finals taking place in the Centre of Excellence at the County Ground on Monday January 26.
The defending champions are Bishop Fox's from Taunton, who will be competing against four other schools to retain their title.
Meanwhile the Schools Inter Cricket competition for Year 7 and 8 pupils has so far attracted 16 schools.
These schools will initially compete in areas before the winners take part in the finals day at the County Ground on Friday March 19.
Somerset are once again staging their Cricket Skills Sessions during the Spring Half Term week.
The sessions will be for both boys and girls aged between six and 14 years and will be open to youngsters of all ability.
Group sessions will take place on Monday 16, Tuesday 17, Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19 February between 9.30 am and 12.30pm for six to nine year olds and between 1.15pm and 4.15pm for the 10 to 14 year olds, while on Friday February 20 there will be individual coaching sessions.
Kit will be provided for those who do not have their own and cricket whites or track suit trousers and soft soled non-marking shoes must be worn.
The sessions, costing £10 each, will be conducted by S.C.C.C.'s fully qualified staff, including Ben Wellington and should be booked in advance by contacting Guy Wolfenden at the Centre of Excellence on 01823 352266 to avoid disappointment.
