LEISURE Connection, the company which manages the Helston Sports Centre and Swimming Pool has been presented with an award by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) for its "outstanding commitment to swimming teaching".
This is the fourth year running that the company has received this accolade.
The award was presented by Sharron Davies, MBE, to Tricia Lewis, swimming project manager for Leisure Connection at the annual ASA Swimtastic 2003 gala dinner event. The awards evening recognises those who have achieved in, or have outstanding commitment to, the sport of swimming. Many children, adults, clubs and schools were joined by top swimmers to celebrate the honours.
Tricia said: "It is really rewarding to have the ongoing achievements of SwimSchool formally recognised by the National governing body. With increasing pressures to accommodate academic requirements, schools are finding it more and more difficult to timetable adequate swim teaching. SwimSchool incorporates all national curriculum criteria and works alongside schools to develop water competency and stroke improvement."
SwinSchool involves over 50,000 pupils and is just one aspect of the AquaAction swim programme currently offered at 67 Leisure Connection sites across the UK. The comprehensive programme also incorporates Swim for Fitness, a pool based fitness programme, and swimming lessons for adults.
