Following on from the letter published last week by the chairman of the Helston Christmas Lights Committee, I would just like to point out that the tree placed at the bottom of Trengrouse Way at Christmas was a donation, therefore saving the committee an estimated £50.
My grandmother, Gwen Trethowan, had kindly donated the tree in memory of her late husband Arthur, who was a well-known and respected figure in Helston. My grandfather had planted the tree in their garden following its use at Christmas 1990, then only four feet high. By 2003 it had grown to a height of some 20 or so feet!
I congratulate the committee on having won the title "The best lit town in the South West", but I do feel that this kind donation should be recognised.
Chris Warrington, Church Street, Helston.
