As a serving soldier with the 1st Battalion The Light Infantry, I'm writing to thank Mr Barrie Elliott for his "Thank God For Our Soldiers" letter and also to get the view across that I've heard from many soldiers.
The thing that has upset me, and others, is that all of us soldiers who went to war are not getting anywhere near as much recognition as the England rugby players have.
We were forced to go out to Iraq and fight a war but nobody can really can tell us if it was for a valid reason but these rugby players received OBEs and MBEs. Myself and my mates have no idea if we are even eligible for a war medal!
When the Cornish lads came home from the war there were no parades or photographs in the papers.
Myself and others were upset that there wasn't any kind of recognition for us but the England rugby team won medals.
Following my medical treatment this month, I will leave the UK for Iraq again. We are thankful for people like Mr Elliott as they make an effort to show they appreciate us for our job and what we go through. On behalf of all us soldiers Thank you!
