TRURO City's soccer development school is going from strength to strength with numbers hovering consistently around the 90 mark despite the onset of the wintry weather.
Having cut its teeth at this level in the summer, the school's success has even surprised head coach Chris Webb.
"You never know how well these ventures are going to be supported," said Webb "but it has already exceeded our expectations.
"To get the school up and running was the major exercise in our first season, but I am amazed at the numbers who turn up week in week out, especially now that the weather is not so good.
"We are now in a position to apply to place teams in the Kernow Youth Football League and we could be looking at as many as five teams at different age levels.
"We have plenty of girls who attend the sessions, but we don't really have enough of any one particular age group, so we would be delighted to see more goals turn up for our u12 and 14 age groups."
The success of the school has not gone unrecognised by sponsors and official bodies.
On Friday evening two sets of kit were presented to the school by Highway Plant Hire of Truro and Cory Environmental.
Carrick Leisure have also approached the school to stage a funday during half-term on February 18 and that is something which the school hopes they can build on in the future.
Starting at 10 am, the day will include drills, passing, shooting, heading, ball control, 30 minutes dinner with discussion on the morning activities, penalty shootout, free kicks, keep-ups, and small sided games.
"On top of that we are holding an open night for parents to see just what is involved in being a manager of a youth team and how itl is run. We want to offer much more than just coaching sessions. We want to offer alternatives and broaden the spectrum in order that the youngsters can enjoy football to the limit. It's also about attempting to do something different."
The parents' evening is taking place at Penair School on January 29 and all parents, including those who do not have children at the development school, are welcome to attend the presentation.
