Helston Age Concern's campaign for a new minibus has been boosted by £2,000, following a donation from the mayor's welfare fund.
The organisation is attempting to raise around £32,000 to cover the cost of a replacement bus, but despite strenuous fundraising efforts, only around half that amount has so far been amassed.
The branch's ageing minibus was replaced with a second-hand model some 18 months ago, but securing a new vehicle was always the ultimate goal.
Former Helston Age Concern chairman Frank Houghton, who died last April, was leading the campaign for a new minibus and members have vowed to see the project through in his memory.
Treasurer Edna Angove, who was among committee members receiving a cheque from Helston mayor Nick Martin last Thursday, said the branch was "thrilled " with the donation.
