China Fleet Country Club members will today be raising money for the Dame Hannah Rodgers Trust, by testing the strength and stamina of local sporting figures, in their very own take on the cult TV series 'Superstars'.
The confirmed competitors for the China Fleet event, which starts at 10.45am, are Dan Ward-Smith of Plymouth Albion RFC; Katherine Endacott of Plymouth Athletic Club; Nathan Hayes of Tamar Valley Cannons basketball team; Matt Villis of Plymouth Argyle; Plymouth middleweight boxer, Scott Dann; Chris Sherring of Marjons Volleyball team; John Sheffield, formerly of Plymouth Argyle.
China Fleet will also be represented, by the overall winner of its members' competition.
The Superstars competition will feature eight different events: target golf, gym test, 500-metre row, 2km cycle, football, tennis, basketball and a 50m swim. Competitors will be taken out of one event by the organisers and will be allowed to opt out of the event they feel is their weakest, but they must compete in the other six events.
Dean Bennett, duty leisure manager at China Fleet, said: 'The Dame Hannah Rodgers School provides special residential education for around 50 pupils, all of whom suffer physical disabilities and the majority of whom are wheelchair users.
'The Superstars event will give our members a chance to raise some much needed funds for this worthy cause and see their local sporting heroes in action at the same time!'
The event will finish at 3pm with presentations and a special prize draw, that will feature prizes donated by China Fleet, and a variety of local companies, including, Fitness 4 Sport, Intek Communications, Warner Village, Grinders, The Theatre Royal, Megabowl, The National Marine Aquarium, City Electric, and The Bodyshop.
In addition to the prize draw, there will be more opportunities for members to raise more money for the Dame Hannah Rodgers Trust, by entering one of a number of spectator competitions that will be held throughout the day.
