Torquay's inner harbour bridge is to be closed for up to three days this month, from Tuesday 20 January.
The Living Coasts Marine Aviary is being closed between 10 and 26 January, and because of this Torbay Council is taking the opportunity to allow contractors to carry out warranty works on the bridge, which opened last May.
Health and safety issues mean the bridge has to be closed to the public for these minor adjustment works that relate principally to the decking and bridge-locking components.
Harbour Master Captain Kevin Mowat, who is Marine Services Director at the recently formed Torbay Development Agency, has written to local businesses to advise them of the closure.
'Marine Services apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused by these works,' he said.
Capt Mowat said it was hoped the closure would be for a maximum of three days. However, if more work was needed, they would avoid closing the bridge to the public at the weekend.
Every effort would also be made to minimise any disruption to navigation while the bridge was closed.
Boat owners are asked to contact the harbour office on 01803 292429 if they have any queries.
